What is the Chapel Meeting House?
Thank you for your interest in the
Camp St. Augustine Chapel. The Chapel Meeting
House is an historic renovated chapel, located on 56 Mill Street in
Foxboro, that belongs to the people of Foxboro. Any Town citizen,
who is 21 years or older, may request its use for group or private
functions.
What the facility offers
The most important thing offered
by the Chapel Meeting House is its setting. Located on the corner
of the Foxboro State Forest, this building is situated in a quiet
pine forest area on the corner of the Cocasset River Recreation area.
The structure reflects a late 19th
century style with a single large room, warm gold colored walls, hard
pine floors, high ceilings, and is furnished with comfortable chairs
and tables for functional use.
The main 46 'x 16' master room can
accommodate a maximum of 65 people, and is suitable for parties, gatherings,
reunions, or similar type functions. The Chapel Meeting House has
a small side room that contains a handicap accessible toilet, and
a small kitchenette/pantry area. This pantry has ample counterspace
and full sized refrigerator. There is a very functional, propane fueled,
heating/AC unit, that allows the building to be utilized throughout
the entire year. Use of this building will be very suitable for groups
who are looking for a quiet meeting place in a pine forest setting,
in a wonderfully warm and friendly atmosphere.
IMPORTANT NOTES: (1) Due to Foxboro
municipal policy, NO ALCOHOL is allowed at any function,
at any time, in this building; (2) Any food may be brought in for
a private function and is the responsibility of the user to insure
its quality for their guests. However, due to Health Department requirements,
the Chapel does not accommodate food preparation or heating with the
exception of coffee/tea/cocoa; (3) Users are asked to clean up and
take away any trash or left overs remaining after a function.

More about the Chapel
Built in 1913, the Camp St. Augustine
Chapel is an historic Foxboro symbol of “people helping people”.
This structure, located at 63 Mill Street in South Foxboro, was part
of the 100 year old Camp St. Augustine, a church based camp originally
developed to give inner city youth the opportunity to enjoy summers
in a forested and beautiful country setting.
The Chapel, a number of cabins, a
recreation building and other structures remaining from the former
camp, were purchased by the Town in July 1, 2004 specifically for
recreational purposes. The Friends of Camp St. Augustine, FOCSA,
petitioned the Town Selectmen for permission to rebuild and renovate
the Chapel for use as a multi-purpose meeting place and learning center
for community organizations, groups and families. The “use plan”
for this building targets various town groups including the Boy Scouts,
Girl Scouts, the Foxboro schools, church groups, Senior Citizens,
MOMS Club, etc. Rental of the Chapel is available for private, family,
educational or business functions as well. This building is a wonderfully
quiet and peaceful setting in the forest for club meetings, birthday
parties, alternative classroom activities, anniversaries or small
reunions.
We are proud of this facility. It
is part of our Foxboro history. But we are also proud of the fact
that this building was saved from demolition by Foxboro citizens,
and is currently available to the extended community for their pleasure
and enjoyment.
